An endocrinologist specializes in diagnosing and treating hormone-related and metabolic conditions, including diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders and hormone imbalances. Your primary care provider can help you manage prediabetes and even diabetes in some cases. However, if you have concerns about your hormonal health or have been referred by your primary care doctor, spending time with an endocrinologist can help provide a specialized approach to diagnosing and managing your condition. Your endocrinologist may recommend diagnostic testing, medication or hormone therapy, or surgery. Not every condition, however, needs medical intervention.
Some insurance plans may require a referral. It is recommended that patients check with their insurance provider before scheduling an appointment. Norton Healthcare does not require a referral to schedule an appointment.
Bring a list of your current medications, recent blood sugar readings, if applicable, insurance information, photo identification and any relevant medical records or lab results.
