<\/figure>\n\n\n\nSymptoms of Uterine Fibroids<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Uterine fibroids are noncancerous tumors or lumps made of muscle cells that grow within the wall of or on the outside of the uterus. Uterine fibroids may grow as a single tumor or in clusters and vary from the size of an apple seed to a grapefruit and occasionally even larger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Genetics, hormones and a woman\u2019s general health play a role in the development of uterine fibroid tumors. Fibroids usually occur in women of childbearing age and decrease in size after menopause, because they are linked to hormone levels in the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
African-American women and women with a family history of fibroids are more likely to develop uterine fibroids, as are obese women and those who eat a lot of red meat and ham. Women who have given birth are at a lower risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Signs of uterine fibroids include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- Heavy bleeding or painful periods<\/li>
- Bleeding between periods<\/li>
- Feeling of fullness or pressure in the lower abdomen<\/li>
- Frequent urination (from the fibroid pressing on the bladder)<\/li>
- Pain during sex<\/li>
- Lower back pain<\/li>
- Reproductive difficulties, such as infertility or miscarriage<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n \n \n\n\n
