Many programs may be reluctant to accept pregnant patients, partly due to lack of knowledge about pregnancy and the unborn baby\u2019s development. A baby whose mother was using opiates (such as heroin or oxycodone) while pregnant may experience neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS).&nbsp;Symptoms of NAS include pain, screaming, excessive sucking, tremors, agitation and seizures.&nbsp;With alcohol use during pregnancy, your newborn may experience fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS).&nbsp;FAS can cause slow growth, facial abnormalities and brain disorders. Newborns with NAS or FAS require specialized care in the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Substance use during pregnancy can lead to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Miscarriage<\/li><li>Premature birth<\/li><li>Baby with low birth weight<\/li><li>A child with behavioral issues<\/li><li>Neonatal abstinence syndrome<\/li><li>Fetal alcohol syndrome<\/li><li>A lifetime of learning disabilities for the child<\/li><li>A child who experiences substance dependence throughout life<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-monitoring-and-healing\">Monitoring and Healing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Candidates for the Norton MOST Program are screened by a qualified clinician to determine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If the program is the right medical option for you<\/li><li>If you are eligible for the program<\/li><li>Your substance use status<\/li><li>What level of withdrawal symptoms you are experiencing<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the assessment is completed, a qualified physician will determine if further evaluation or admission is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-program-services\">Program Services<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Norton MOST Program offers hospital stabilization\/detoxification (detox) services and an outpatient recovery program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hospital-stabilization-and-detox\">Hospital Stabilization and Detox<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Admission to Norton Women\u2019s &amp; Children\u2019s Hospital, with a typical stay of two to five days<\/li><li>Management of withdrawal symptoms, which can include treatment with medication, high-risk pregnancy supervision and fetal monitoring<\/li><li>Compassionate care provided by trained and professional staff<\/li><li>Recovery treatment planning, care coordination and follow-up care and support before and after birth<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-outpatient-recovery-program\">Outpatient Recovery
