We have been trusted by Louisville and Southern Indiana for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gastric motility conditions affect the body\u2019s ability to gradually move food through the digestive system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sophisticated-testing-to-evaluate-your-digestive-health\">Sophisticated Testing To Evaluate Your Digestive Health<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our specialists use manometry studies to evaluate your gastric motility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have pain when swallowing, your physician may order a manometry study. Other tests can identify whether there is an obstruction or narrowing of your esophagus. Swallowing issues are more frequently the result of an obstruction in the esophagus, rather than a gastric motility disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manometry studies can help diagnose a number of esophageal conditions such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Achalasia \u2013 This is a rare condition in which the muscle at the end of the esophagus stays closed during swallowing and prevents food from entering the stomach.<\/li><li>Diffuse esophageal spasm \u2013 This rare swallowing problem is characterized by circular folds in the esophagus (sometimes called corkscrew esophagus) that result in poorly coordinated muscle contractions in your esophagus.<\/li><li>Scleroderma \u2013 This systemic disease can affect the digestive system\u2019s motility. Scleroderma can cause the lower esophageal sphincter not to close properly.
