These signs, sometimes called \u201cpre-heart-attack symptoms,\u201d can appear days or weeks ahead of the actual heart attack. While there are <a href=\"https:\/\/nortonhealthcare.com\/news\/9-signs-you-may-be-having-a-heart-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">common signs<\/a> regardless of gender, there may be some unique symptoms that tend to affect women more than men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early signs and symptoms of a heart attack may occur in 50% of patients. Recognizing the beginning of a heart attack means treatment can begin before any damage occurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone may show one or more of these common heart attack signs. When they start, they can be mild or come and go. Over time, the symptoms and pain become more intense. Stay alert and always pay attention to chest pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Common Heart Attack Warning Signs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/nortonhealthcare.com\/news\/back-pain-heart-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Back pain<\/a><\/li><li>Shortness of breath<\/li><li>Chest discomfort, including chest pressure, squeezing, aching or burning<\/li><li>Feeling of fullness<\/li><li>Pain that travels down one or both arms<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/nortonhealthcare.com\/news\/shoulder-jaw-and-neck-pain-signs-of-heart-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jaw pain<\/a><\/li><li>Excessive fatigue or weakness<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/nortonhealthcare.com\/news\/panic-attack-heart-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anxiety<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Uncommon Heart Attack Warning Signs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some heart attack symptoms aren\u2019t typical, but should be taken seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A sharp or knifelike pain that occurs with coughing or breathing<\/li><li>Jaw pain or pain that spreads into the lower body<\/li><li>Difficult or labored breathing<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pre-heart-attack Symptoms \u2013 Female<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because <a href=\"https:\/\/nortonhealthcare.com\/news\/when-marty-metcalf-woke-up-it-didnt-seem-like-a-heart-issue-but-it-was\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">women can have unique heart attack symptoms<\/a> , they may be less likely to seek immediate medical care that could prevent heart damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Men may feel pain and numbness in the left arm or the side of the chest. In women, these symptoms may appear on the right side.<\/li><li>Women may experience unexplained exhaustion, or feel drained, dizzy or nauseous.<\/li><li>Women may feel upper back pain that travels up into their jaw.<\/li><li>Women may think their <a href=\"https:\/\/nortonhealthcare.com\/news\/gas-pain-or-heart-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stomach pain<\/a> is the flu, heartburn or an ulcer.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pre-heart-attack Symptoms \u2013 Male<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heart attack symptoms in men are similar but subtly different from women\u2019s heart attack symptoms, and can include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Pain and numbness on the <a href=\"https:\/\/nortonhealthcare.com\/news\/left-arm-pain-heart-attack\/\">left side of the body<\/a>, including the arm and chest<\/li><li>Squeezing chest pressure or pain<\/li><li>Jaw, neck or back pain<\/li><li>Nausea or vomiting<\/li><li>Shortness of breath<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes, <a href=\"https:\/\/nortonhealthcare.com\/news\/gas-pain-or-heart-attack\/\">gas can cause pain<\/a> that feels like a heart attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Heart Attack Risk Factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some conditions may make some people more prone to heart attack.
